I swooned over this Pauline Palmer 1867–1938 Painting at the Muskegon Museum of art while working as a guard this month. Her palette is just so yummy. Her use of color and light reminds me of my Friend Charles Allen LaRue. I have purchased a few of his paintings over the years, but I would love to have a Palmer landscape. Though this painting is not dated, I imagine that this woman did not have the right to vote when she was painting it. Not until 1920 did white women have the right to vote. I am thrilled that the MMA acquired this painting in 2016. An article in the WSJ recently talked about The Everson Museum of Art selling Jackson Pollack's 'Red Composition (Painting 1946)' to get the funds to purchase artwork from women and people of color for their collection. The article was critical of the museum for doing selling off one of their major works. I tend to agree with the museums choice to update their collections. What do you think of what they are doing? https://www.wsj.com/articles/an-art-museum-sells-its-soul-11600808127
Added edit 10/3/2020 "I first encountered the Palmer painting at the donors home when picking up art from the donor for “the Chicago Painter Lady “ exhibit. Later as an MMA employee again picking it up for our collection. This time of year is wonderful as the seasons roll. Hope to see you soon at the MMA the new Russel Prather exhibit is up" Lee Brown MMA
LVAC Artist Trunk Show in Duncan Woods. Did you miss it?
Artists get creative during COVID 19. Here in Michigan, we are working hard to keep out COVID numbers down, and we have lots of restrictions, but that leaves room for more creative ideas. The Lakeshore Visual Arts Collective is a group I started in 2015 www.lakeshorevac.com/ we are a group of Michigan Artists. I heard so many people say they wish we would have advertised it better. We sent press releases, I blogged about it, and LVAC sent emails as well as daily Facebook and Instagram posts. If you know people who want to know about art events, please invite them to join this blog and my mailing list here https://forms.gle/Sec1MhXswCDgzTrf6 or the LVAC newsletter http://www.lakeshorevac.com/join.html Here is the article in the Grand Haven Tribune. https://www.grandhaventribune.com/multimedia/art-walk-in-the-park/collection_c24d5ef8-f5fc-11ea-90ba-17014ab61219.html
